  • Throwback Thursday - Oct. 28, 2021

    On Oct. 29, 1949, Headquarters 14th Air Force began operations at Robins AFB. Maj. Gen. Charles E. Thomas Jr., formerly the first Depot commander, commanded 14AF until January 1955. Thomas was also instrumental in building the first golf course at Robins, which was opened Aug. 4, 1951.

    On Oct. 27, 1955, the first F-100C Super Sabre Jet fighter arrived at Robins. It was the first of 12 to into WRAMA’s flight test facility. Former WR-ALC Commander Maj. Gen. Rick Goddard’s F-100 is on display at the Museum of Aviation.

    In October 1942, Robins Field began operations when an A-20 aircraft and a C-47 aircraft arrived for maintenance and sustainment work. In addition, the first station hospital and chapel opened. Also, the depot was re-designated the Warner Robins Army Air Depot at this time.
