6/1/2012 - ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- Robins Air Force Base is being recognized for how it showcases history and for its top-notch team who records it.

The Air Force History and Museums Program recently announced the Museum of Aviation's exhibit, "Tuskegee Airmen: A Proud Heritage," as the 2012 Air Force Heritage Award winner.

Dr. William Head and Diane Truluck, Base History Office historians were also awarded the Albert F. Simpson Award Excellence in History Programs.

In a recent press release Museum deputy director, Dudley Bluhm said, "It's a great honor for our Museum Exhibit Team to be recognized at the Air Force level. This exhibit is about heroes, American heroes that kids and adults so desperately seek today. It's been our honor to portray the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen, black Americans who not only fought on the battlefield, but endured the prejudices of the day in order to keep all Americans free."

The Albert F. Simpson Award recognizes a history office at the NAF (non-appropriated funds), Center, or Laboratory level.

Head, History Office chief, said he was humbled by the award.

"To be considered one of the best History Offices in the Air Force by your fellow historians and Airmen is a great honor indeed."

Truluck agreed.

"It's very exciting and humbling to be recognized for doing something that you love," she said.
