Veterans

Durward Swanson, Army Air Force veteran, autographs a B-17 model aircraft during a reception Aug. 21 at the Museum of Aviation. Swanson arrived at Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii, in 1939. Surviving the attack on Pearl Harbor and Hickam, he went on to fly the B-17 into the Battle of Midway. The reception in honor of veterans who served aboard B-17s was held in celebration of the arrival of the B-17 Flying Fortress to the museum. (U.S. Air Force photo by Tommie Horton)
