Legion of Honor
Edward Quilty, right, from Greenville, SC, is awarded the Legion of Honor medal by Pascal Le Deunff, the Consul General of France in Atlanta, at a ceremony at the Museum of Aviation Sept. 1. Other recipients were Albert Whatley, Tucker, GA, Oliver Littlejohn, Sandy Spring, GA, and posthumously to James Leach, Beaufort, SC. To express France’s gratitude for those who liberated it from oppression from 1944-45, the Legion of Honor was awarded to the four American WWII Veterans from across the Southeast region. Founded by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802, the National Order of the Legion of Honor is the highest honor in France. It recognizes eminent services to the French Republic.
