ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- It’s evident throughout the years that women have made their mark in U.S. history.
In March, Robins will celebrate visionary women and how their leadership has made a difference in society.
Master Sgt. Christie Conn, flight chief and communications systems technician in the 12th Airborne Command and Control Squadron, who is also the Robins Diversity Council’s secretary, said women’s history is a shared history.
“We are all one team at Robins Air Force Base and that team includes many women from various backgrounds,” she said.
Conn said Robins will celebrate the accomplishments of several women and how their vision changed life for everyone.
“We are celebrating visionary women throughout history,” she said. “For example, we celebrate the contributions of Marie Curie who studied physics and had the vision to help develop cancer treatments. She was also the first woman to receive the Nobel Prize.”
The accomplished women will also include civil rights activists who helped bring women to the forefront of today’s world.
“We celebrate Rosa Parks who challenged segregation and stood in the face of racism,” Conn said. “She had a vision of America as a more inclusive country. Additionally, we recognize Susan B. Anthony who championed the Women’s Suffrage movement and had the vision to enfranchise women.”
Robins will kick off the month with a proclamation signing March 11 at 2 p.m. at the Heritage Club. Following the signing, Robins will host a women’s panel discussion featuring several successful members of the military and civilian communities to speak on their experiences, keys to success and obstacles they’ve encountered as women in their career fields.
The base will wrap up the month with The Ugly Dress Run at the Fitness Center March 29 at 7:30 a.m.
“We encourage runners to wear their ugliest dress and have some fun as Women’s History Month draws to an end,” Conn said.
