402nd Software Engineering Group

The 402nd Software Engineering Group, a component of the Air Force Sustainment Center Software Directorate, is one of the Air Force’s organic suppliers of software engineering capabilities, seamlessly supporting every phase of the software development acquisition life cycle. They deliver cutting-edge solutions, from weapon system operational flight programs and mission planning support to innovative training applications, advanced artificial intelligence technologies, robust business execution systems, and sophisticated test program sets that facilitate avionics diagnostics and repair. The 402nd SWEG provides support to all armed force branches under the Department of Defense and over 30 allied nations and key NATO partners.

GOALS

  1. Institutionalize standard processes for executing 402nd SWEG activities
    1. Lead SWEG Enterprise in the alignment of AoP tenets and CMMI best practices in meeting AS9100 standards
    2. Institutionalize quantitative measures to manage projects, make organizational decisions and guide process improvement initiatives
    3. Standardize and deploy AoP machines in areas of  work within 402nd SWEG
  2. Strengthen relationship with mission partners and software enterprise
    1. Work directly with enterprise partners to standardize processes  and implementation of best practices
    2. Contribute  organizational resources and process assets to Enterprise Working Groups
    3. Establish and participate in Integrated Product Teams to support communication with mission partners 
  3. Create and maintain an organization that delivers products and services based on its operating process with the agility to adapt to dynamic workload factors
    1. Implement AoP to support predictable, repeatable delivery schedules 
    2. Apply standard management tools across the group
    3. Enhance organizational posture to support increasing mission and strategic workload requirements 
  4. Promote a professional work environment
    1. Enhance workforce development  through the implementation of strategic and tactical training programs
    2. Promote professional  growth and development by standardizing formal on-the-job training and mentorship programs across the organization
    3. Strategic alignment of organizational roles to skill sets and training requirements 
  5. Equip  our first-line supervisors with the skills needed to lead and develop a diverse and technical workforce
    1. Ensure required  training for first-line supervisors is scheduled and delivered
    2. Provide mentoring for first-line supervisors during their first year of supervision 
    3. Identify and eliminate activities which distract from focusing on taking care of their people and executing the mission
