ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. – In the early morning hours May 24, 2017, an RQ-4 Global Hawk aircraft landed at Robins Air Force Base, Georgia, to receive paint as part of its programmed depot maintenance. In April 2026, the Air Force approved a temporary beddown of the RQ-4 at Robins AFB from Grand Forks AFB, North Dakota, while the installation's runway received repairs. ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- Todd Lavender, 558th Aircraft Maintenance Support Squadron process engineer and corrosion control process manager, explains the process used to de-paint C-17 aircraft engine shrouds at Robins Air Force Base, Georgia, Feb. 1, 2021. The de-paint process is the application of a chemical mixture of benzyl-alcohol and hydrogen-peroxide that is sprayed onto aircraft surface to remove layers of paint. Three newly installed paint booths at a 571st Commodities Maintenance Group paint facility have drastically decreased production time, work hazards, health hazards and environmental impact simultaneously. The 50 feet deep by 20 feet wide paint booths are enclosed structures used for painting large assets from various military aircraft.
