On Dec. 17, 1969, the first production C-5A Galaxy was delivered to the Air Force. Today’s modernized fleet of C-5M Super Galaxies are maintained at the WR-ALC. The aircraft’s main function is to transport cargo and can carry a maximum cargo weight of 281,000 pounds. The length of the aircraft is over 247 feet…longer than the entirety of the Wright brothers’ first powered flight of 120 feet!
