Maj. Gen. Christopher P. Weggeman, 24th Air Force and Air Forces Cyber commander, presents the first Billy J. Millis United States Air Force Combat Communications Leadership Award to Staff Sgt. Nicholas Mattox, 5th Combat Communications Support Squadron, at a ceremony during the Combat Communications Rodeo on March 21st. The award is named in honor of the late Col. Billy J. Millis, an Air Force communicator and pilot who logged over 9000 hours of flight time across a dozen platforms during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam conflicts. He was chosen to become the first commander of the 5th Mobile Communications Group and led them during the Vietnam conflict and the Cold War. The award recognizes the superior accomplishments of officers and enlisted leaders, who demonstrate ingenuity, perseverance, and leadership to solve communications problems in the performance of their duties and the conduct of their lives.
