Throwback Thursday - June 2, 2022

On June 14, 1941, the War Department selected Wellston, Georgia (population 47), as the site for the construction of an Air Corps Depot located in the southeastern United States. Two days later on June 16, Macon leaders received a telegram from U.S. Congressman Carl Vinson officially announcing the War Department’s selection of Wellston. This culminated the hard work of Macon Mayor Charles E. Bowden, the Macon Chamber of Commerce and Macon City Manager Lee Trimble.
