Throwback Thursday - March 17, 2022
Air Force leadership announced plans to undertake PACER CENTER, a repair program to replace the center wing box on many of their C‑141 aircraft, and assigned it to the WR-ALC March 17, 1987. The program cost $222 million and 1.4 million man hours. More than 300 employees removed the 5,000 lb center wing boxes or fairings and replaced each with a new box requiring 7,000 fasteners each to hold them in place. It was the Air Force’s largest depot program up to that time. The effort significantly extended the life of the C-141.
