Transition Assistance Program (TAP)

Designed to provide retiring, separating, and demobilizing members and family members the information, skills and knowledge needed for successful transition. Transition assistance will be provided to DoD civilian employees and family members impacted by restructuring and reductions. Program components include:

Transition Time Line
Transition Assistance delivery is crucial:
· All personnel separating or retiring MUST receive pre-separation counseling.

· Counseling must be accomplished no later than 90 days prior to separation; ideally no later than 90 days prior to departure (i.e., permissive TDY, leave, etc.).

· Pre-separation counseling is documented on DD Form 2648, with the original mailed to HQ AFPC, Randolph AFB, for filing in the individual's master personnel file.
