Transition Assistance Program (TAP)

Designed to provide retiring, separating, and demobilizing members and family members the information, skills and knowledge needed for successful transition. Transition assistance will be provided to DoD civilian employees and family members impacted by restructuring and reductions. Program components include:

Transition Time Line
Transition Assistance delivery is crucial:
· All personnel separating or retiring MUST receive preseparation counseling.

· Counseling must be accomplished no later than 90 days prior to separation; ideally no later than 90 days prior to departure (i.e., permissive TDY, leave, etc.).

· Pre-separation counseling is documented on DD Form 2648, with the original mailed to HQ AFPC, Randolph AFB, for filing in the individual's master personnel file.

Provides information on the many services and benefits available to retiring/separating members.

DoD TransPortal
DoD TransPortal--offers three major services. First it provides an easy to read tutorial on transition assistance--information you need to know about your transition benefits and services. Second, it provides easy access to information on the location of military transition assistance offices and on links to federal transition and job assistance web sites. Third, it contains carefully selected links to the best of the web as well as tutorials on how to conduct both a traditional and electronic job search
