Chief Master Sergeant MICHAEL D. SIMON II

CMSgt Michael Simon is the Command Chief, 461st Air Control Wing, Robins AFB, Georgia.  He is the wing’s senior enlisted leader and principal advisor to the commander on all aspects of employment, training, readiness, resilience, and development of the force for the preparation and deployment of war-winning battle management and combat airfield operations for Air Components. Supporting this mission are Command and Control (C2), Communication, Intelligence, and Airfield Operations professionals. These Airmen operate advanced systems within the newly developing Battle Control Center and the Deployable Air Traffic Control and Landing Systems. These emerging capabilities place the 461st at the leading edge in transforming the future of battle management across Combatant Commands. With these sophisticated technologies and highly trained Airmen, the 461st provides advanced tactical C2 and expeditionary airfield operations to combatant commanders in support of Agile Combat Employment operations, peacetime airfield operations, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief missions.

Chief Simon entered the Air Force in July 2000. He graduated from the helicopter maintenance crew chief apprentice course at Fort Eustis, Virginia, in February 2001. Chief Simon has served on active duty for over 23 years. Throughout his career, he has maintained MH-53, HH-60, Mi-17, MD-530 helicopters, and the CV-22 Osprey filling a myriad of technical and leadership roles. Chief Simon has been stationed at locations in Florida, Georgia, Colorado, and New Mexico. He has served as an Air Advisor to the Afghan Air Force and at the United States Air Force Academy as an Academy Military Training NCO.

Chief Simon has deployed multiple times and participated in several contingency operations in support of NATO Air Training Command - Afghanistan, Joint Special Operations Air Component - Central, Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa, and Operations Mountain Resolve, Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom, and Inherent Resolve. Prior to his current position, the Chief was the Group Senior Enlisted Leader, 27th Special Operations Maintenance Group, Cannon AFB, New Mexico.
