Robin's See Me, Save Me motorcycle safety campaign kicked off in 2008 with great success. The effort continued Thursday, with the second See Me, Save Me Motorcycle Safety Awareness Ride. More that 100 riders participated in the ride, which after a tour through the base under escort by 78th Security Forces, the bikes headed out into the city for a ride before ending at the Museum of Aviation. Cpl. Justin Hall, a crash investigator with Houston County Sheriff’s Office, talks to Airmen at an All Call July 2. Stories, statistics, education and awareness about alcohol consumption were part of briefing. According to Hall, it’s an individual decision whether or not to drink and drive, and it’s a voluntary one at that. Military members at Robins run with the POW/MIA flag during a 24-hour run Wednesday and Thursday which honored the memory of thousands of our nation's heroes who didn’t return home from battle. The run was in advance of National POW/MIA Recognition Day, which is observed annually on the third Friday in September. The annual Camellia Gardens Memorial Service paid tribute to 59 deceased members of Team Robins May 23 in the tranquil garden across from the Horizons Event Center. Maj. Gen. Craig Gourley, Air Force Reserve Command vice commander, delivered the memorial address, the base honor guard delivered a 21-gun salute and taps was played. The service is a 37-year tradition rooted in a partnership between Robins, the Middle Georgia Camellia Society and the Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce. The three teamed in 1976 to establish and dedicate the garden. At the garden’s entrance, a brick and mortar wall displays gold plaques with the names of 1,896 deceased military and civilian members from Robins who were honored in past ceremonies. A candlelight vigil was conducted May 16 at the Robins Chapel with a memorial service honoring law enforcement members who have given their lives in the line of duty during the past year.
