HAWC calls people to wear red Friday for "Go Red for Women" campaign Published Feb. 4, 2014 By Holly Logan-Arrington Robins Public Affairs ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- Wearing red isn't just for Valentine's Day. On Friday, National Wear Red Day, sporting the bright color signifies one's support for the "Go Red for Women" campaign -- a national movement led by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, in partnership with the American Heart Association, to bring heart disease's impact on women to light. "Heart disease has traditionally been associated with men, but heart disease kills more women than all forms of cancer combined," Stuart Bapties, Robins Health and Wellness Center Flight commander, said. "The National "Wear Red Day " highlights support to mothers, sisters, daughters, and wives and calls their attention to women's heart health." The observance promotes the Red Dress symbol and provides an opportunity for everyone to unite and show support by putting on a favorite red dress, shirt, tie or Red Dress pin. Bapties said military members in uniform may place something red in their work areas or wear red after work to participate in the observance.
