Base successfully wraps up first exercise under new AFIS

ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. --  The installation's first emergency management and readiness exercise conducted under the new Air Force Inspection System was a successful endeavor.

"We received great support from across the base," said Master Sgt. Suzanne Martin, Inspector General's Office superintendent. "As with any exercise, we have room for improvement. We learned a lot of good things and worked really well together."

This year's exercise, which ran Feb. 24 through March 7, included a limited Phase 1, where Airmen processed through a deployment line with the 78th Logistics Readiness Squadron. It also included an "Ability to Survive and Operate Challenge" at Warrior Air Base, which provided self-aid and buddy care, weapons, and "Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives," training. The Airmen also trained on radio communications use.

"It was a busy two weeks," said Tony Purtee, with the IG exercise and inspection branch. "Overall it was a huge success due to the training environment. We had good elements of command, and control and response."
A two-day tornado and recovery exercise provided a practical element for simulated damage estimates in the event of a weather-related emergency.

The Robins Crisis Action Team and Emergency Operations Center assessed the situation; CAT and Emergency Operation Center teams participated in a base network infrastructure shutdown, operating in a limited communications environment.

Along with fire, first responders and relocation exercises, the Robins Sexual Assault Response Coordinator Office conducted SARC response evaluations for active duty and civilian supervisors.

Participation extended across the base, including the 78th Air Base Wing, Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex, 638th Supply Chain Management Group, Team JSTARS and the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center.

Another exercise is scheduled for May 16 through 19.
