Gate changes ease traffic woes Published April 11, 2014 By Brian Shreve Robins Public Affaris ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- Team Robins motorists may have found getting into work a bit easier lately thanks to recent changes at the Russell Parkway Gate and the reopening of the Martin Luther King Jr. Gate. As of March 17, the two outbound lanes at Russell were converted into inbound lanes during the hours between 6 and 8 a.m. It's a decision that received positive feedback from those concerned with base traffic, according to John Pugh, 78th Mission Support Group deputy director. In addition to five lanes now open for those entering at Russell, this week marked the opening of the MLK gate for inbound traffic between 6 and 8 a.m. with outbound traffic hours unaffected. With the MLK opening, entry at the truck gate is once again limited to commercial traffic only. Pugh said the Air National Guard gate has been closed, and will remain closed, due to the shift of manpower to the Russell entrance. "Everything seems to be working well," he said. "We've received a lot of positive comments about the Russell gate, and now things just need to normalize, people getting used to the schedules and making adjustments."
