New state gun laws don’t trump base weapons policy Published July 2, 2014 By Jenny Gordon Robins Public Affairs ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- As of July 1, House Bill 60, a new gun legislation, goes into effect across Georgia cities which expands where residents may legally carry firearms. While the law will allow Georgians to carry firearms into bars, churches and state government buildings under certain conditions, the rules remain the same on federal government installations such as Robins Air Force Base. The policy remains the same on base that only Department of Defense military and civilians performing law enforcement and security duties can be armed with weapons, according to Chief Master Sgt. Patrick Poth, 78th Security Forces Squadron manager. Basically, nothing has changed and the new state law does not apply inside Robins, he said. House Bill 60 passed the Georgia Legislature this past March, with Gov. Nathan Deal signing the bill into law in April.
