Families help Robins set new ASBP blood donation record Published May 7, 2010 By Erin Hawkins ASBP blood donor recruiter ROBINS AFB, Ga. -- Team Robins members set a record in a recent blood drive when 250 people turned out and donated 203 pints for blood for troops. Base employees and their family members lined up to donate on April 9 to the Armed Services Blood Program. It was the largest amount Robins has donated since the military blood center began collecting here in 2005. Bill Court completed his 20th donation to the program while a few feet away his 19-year-old daughter, Summer, wrapped up her seventh donation. Bill Court's lifetime donations now total 178, which is more than 22 gallons. "Blood is important," said Mr. Court. "But, this blood is especially meaningful because it's going to our troops who are serving and fighting overseas." Later in the day, there was more father-daughter bonding, courtesy of the Gillis family. Daniel Gillis, completing his 20th donation to the program, was joined by twin daughters Caitlin and Sara. The next Robins blood drive will be June 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Cotton Auditorium Bldg. 301 and the Fitness Center. Shuttles will be provided between the two collection sites. Government civilian employees who donate blood may be excused from work up to four hours to donate blood on base, if required. The time is allowed for travel and recovery. For time and attendance purposes, timesheets should be coded as excused absences for the time used for donations.
