A few members of Team Robins are enjoying a significant upgrade in living accommodations near Luna Lake.

On April 30, the military working dogs who make their home here moved into a new, $788,000 kennel with air conditioning and a ventilation system which constantly pumps in clean air.

"This is really good for the dogs," said Kennel Master Tech Sgt. Keith Wozniak. "It's healthier for them, and the atmosphere is better."

The dogs have been noticeably happier since moving into their new digs, said Wozniak, who noted the kennel has seven dogs, including two who are currently deployed to Iraq.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new kennel is planned June 2 at 9 a.m.

Phase 2 of the project is expected to begin soon and involves turning the old kennel into offices for the dogs' handlers and other staff. The $512,000 renovation is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.

The dogs are used for sniffing out explosives and illegal drugs.
