HVM area wins performance award Published May 21, 2010 By Wayne Crenshaw 78 ABW/PA ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- Many different awards are regularly handed out at Robins, but a new one in the 402nd Aircraft Maintenance Group might be the most unique. It certainly has to be the largest. "It's a lot bigger than I was expecting," said Col. John Bukowinski, group commander. "I call it the mother of all trophies." Standing six feet tall and weighing about 700 pounds, the trophy will be awarded each quarter to a winning AMXG unit. The AMXG Production Quarterly Performance Award was unveiled in a ceremony last week. The first winner is the High Velocity Maintenance area, which is trailblazing a new and faster way of performing maintenance on the C-130. But that's not the reason it won the award. It's based on an objective formula which looks at a variety of statistics related to safety, quality and performance. It's also weighted to emphasize particular elements and make it fair for the larger units, which would be expected to have more safety mishaps because they have more people, for example. The award was developed because mechanics hear enough about what they are doing wrong, and the group wanted a way to recognize units for what they are doing right, said Bukowinski. He also said it is modeled after an internal "dock of the quarter" award given out in the C-17 area which generates a good bit of positive rivalry and competitive spirit.
