Remote bowling balls available at Robins Published Sept. 9, 2011 By Jenny Gordon 78 Air Base Wing Public Affairs ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- The Robins Lanes Bowling Center has two remote-controlled bowling balls available to Team Robins members as part of the Air Force Wounded Warrior program. Dan Bueno, bowling center manager, noted that the bowling balls have received positive feedback from the community, particularly from those with special needs, the wheelchair-bound, and those who have suffered life-altering injuries. "We're just giving them another outlet to nurture their body and mind," said Bueno. "Even though you're hampered, there are always ways to bowl without having to do it the traditional way." Participants only have to request the special bowling balls, which come with a hand-held remote, complete with left and right switches to manipulate the ball's movements on the lanes. Ball ramps are available for use, and certified coaches are on staff to teach bowling to those with adaptive needs how to throw or roll a ball, added Bueno. Word has gotten out about the bowling balls during smaller events hosted at the bowling center. For those who would like to learn more, the center is hosting an Exceptional Family Member Program information fair from 1 to 5 p.m., Saturday. Vendor representatives include Easter Seals, TriCare, Central Georgia Autism, Georgia Chips (which will be doing fingerprinting), PSA Healthcare, Anchor of Hope Foundation and Parents to Parents.
