The first C-141A Starlifter touched down at Robins AFB July 20, 1964. Air Force officials assigned WRAMA to act as the maintenance center for all 272 C-141 airframes produced. By Aug. 2, the first C-141 was completed on schedule. WRAMA/WR-ALC sustainment experts performed work on all C-141s throughout its life-cycle. This included the famous “stretch modification” from 1977-1980, which added significant capacity to the “workhorse,” as well as aerial refueling. In the 1990s, Center workforce members also removed the old center wing box replacing it with a much stronger one and updated the cockpit with what became known as the “glass cockpit.”
