Throwback Thursday - Sept. 2, 2021

The first depot commander at what is today the Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex, then Col. Charles E. "Steve" Thomas oversaw the ground breaking ceremonies at the Georgia Air Depot to officially begin construction of Robins Field Sept. 1, 1941. The depot name was an unofficial term used by Army engineers for the new site. This date has generally become recognized as the official anniversary date of the opening of the WR-ALC and Robins AFB. The former dairy farm land had been sold to the Army Air Corps for $1 and all good considerations.
