The path to promotion for Air Force Sustainment Center wage-grade personnel will become clearer in the coming weeks thanks to an initiative designed to inform and educate the workforce on their options.
A team composed of workforce development, training, and personnel specialists is building an online resource center that will give employees access to several tools to help in their career advancement. The site is expected to go live by Dec. 31.
“We have outstanding individuals exceling in our wage-grade series who are ready to progress in their careers; they just don’t know the next step,” said Dennis D’Angelo, AFSC executive director. “With this new resource, we are offering some direction on what that next step should be.”
The site will contain series-specific career progression fact sheets for wage-grade series, leadership and technical training opportunities, professional education suggestions, checklists and visual aids.
“Our efforts are two-fold,” said Dana Crowe, director of AFSC Personnel. “We are addressing immediate needs to explain career progression from apprentice to wage supervisor, but also looking at future opportunities to develop resources for those who are interested in transitioning to a general schedule position.”
AFSC initiated the project in response to requests from the workforce and feedback from the AFMC We Need survey. The team intends for the site to be helpful to not just AFSC personnel, but eventually to those throughout Air Force Materiel Command.
Once live, a link will be posted to the AFSC Resource Management website.
