ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- The Thunder Over Georgia Air Show is coming to Middle Georgia Sept. 28 and 29, and the base will feature the 2019 F-22 Demonstration Team, a first-ever for Robins Air Force Base.
Based at Langley AFB, Virginia, the F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team joins the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds for the event.
The Air Combat Command F-22 Demonstration Team uses the F-22 aircraft to perform precision aerial maneuvers while demonstrate the unique capabilities of the fifth-generation fighter aircraft. This is the first time Robins will host the demonstration team.
Thunder Over Georgia attendees will see the full capabilities demonstration by the Raptor, which offers a combination of stealth, super cruise, maneuverability and integrated avionics, coupled with improved supportability. Performing both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions, it can’t be matched by any known or projected fighter aircraft.
Maj. Paul Lopez II is the F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team commander and pilot and, as such, is responsible for representing Air Combat Command, the United States Air Force, the Department of Defense and the United States of America at more than 20 air shows annually.
Lopez leads the 18 member F- 22 Raptor Demonstration Team, oversees maintenance actions performed on one of the most advanced fighter jets ever built, and showcases the Raptor’s exceptional maneuverability for more than 10 million spectators around the world. He is an operational F-22 pilot assigned to the 1st Operations Group within the 1st Fighter Wing.
