ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- The Air Force Assistance Fund gives Robins’ military community the opportunity to help its own.
The AFAF is an annual effort to raise funds for the charities that provide support to Air Force family members, including active duty, retirees, reservists, guard and their dependents, including surviving spouses, who are in need. This year, the campaign will run through April 26.
The campaign supports four charities; the Air Force Aid Society, the General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation, the Air Force Enlisted Village and the Air Force Village Charitable Foundations. These charities consistently care for Airman and their families during times of deployment, financial stress, natural disasters, and individual and family emergencies.
No other campaign is strictly for Airman, by Airman.
The Team Robins goal this year is $78,574.
Capt. John Jones, 78th Medical Group staff psychologist who is Robins’ 2019 AFAF installation project officer, said the fundraiser is an opportunity for Airmen to help each other.
“The Air Force Assistance Fund is an opportunity for Airmen to give back to other Airmen,” he said. “It’s an essential aspect of being a wingman and provides us an opportunity to go above and beyond.”
The funds generated by the campaign support these organizations and benefit Airmen, like the ones at Robins, by providing assistance in times of need.
“In the past, this assistance has taken many forms,” Jones said. “For example, these charities have assisted Airmen in dire financial emergencies, such as medical costs and natural disasters. Additionally, these organizations have also given support for surviving spouses of military members and have made available educational opportunities that would have otherwise not been provided.”
Jones said current events, along with the immense pressure that Airmen are under every day, makes this year’s campaign essential.
“We want to be able to continue the tradition of providing a sense of security for the members of our Air Force so they can focus on the mission at hand,” he said. “Individuals that give to AFAF should know they are making a contribution to that cause, which allows support for Airmen to continue into the future.”
