“Protecting our people, protects our mission.”

That’s the theme of the 2019 Sexual Assault Awareness Month, a theme that speaks volumes about Robins.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Throughout the month, Robins’ Sexual Assault Prevention & Response Office will host a variety of events aimed to educate the community and recognize sexual assault survivors.

Angele Longbrake, Sexual Assault Response Coordinator in the Team Robins SAPR Office, said sexual assault awareness is important to everyone, because it affects everyone in one way or the other.

“Robins Air Force Base is not unique in that the people who work on the base are also very important parts of their communities in the surrounding areas,” she said. “We all have been affected by sexual violence in some way and Robins intends to educate everyone on the tools they have available.”

The month will kick off with a proclamation ceremony at 8:30 a.m. on April 1 at the Horizons Event Center.

“We’ll be having a survivor sharing her story,” Longbrake said. “This will be a great example of a survivor having courage.”

A“SAPR Hero” Color Run/Walk 5k will take place on April 5 at 7 a.m. at the Fitness Center 5k Trail. Participants are encouraged to wear their favorite super hero outfit for the event.

Starting at 6:30 a.m., April 9 and 23, the SAPR Team will give away SAPR promotional items at the Russell Parkway, Green Street and Watson Boulevard gates. Items will be given to those entering the base while supplies last.

Additionally, the SAPR team will host informational booths at the Robins Base Exchange, April 11, at the Fitness Center, April 18, and at the Base Restaurant, April 25.

All events hosted by the SAPR office are free, with free promotional items given away at each.
