Robins Tax Center will open Feb. 6, for customers to make appointments for the 2018 tax season.

Due to the lack of volunteers this year, the center, located in the former officer’s club, building 542, will be available by appointment only from Feb. 6 – April 11, on Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 1-4 p.m.

Jessica Holloway, an attorney in the Robins Legal Office’s Civil Law Division, who serves as co-site coordinator for the Robins Tax Center, said trained and certified volunteers will be on hand to prepare tax returns for eligible active-duty and retired military members.

“The IRS provided an in-person training in December,” she said. “The IRS also provides an e-learning program to train volunteers. There are certification tests that volunteers must pass in order to prepare tax returns.”

Holloway said although the Tax Center is scheduled to open next week, if someone is interested in volunteering, they must complete the IRS training and take the certification tests.

The training website is available at https://apps.irs.gov/app/vita/index.jsp?level=

The certification tests are found under the “Military” tab at https://www.linklearncertification.com/d/.

Holloway said this service is a great deal, with trained, certified volunteers providing tax preparation for free.

“I am extremely thankful for those who have volunteered their time to work at the tax center,” she said. “The volunteers have put in a lot of work to become certified to prepare taxes. We could not have a tax center without these dedicated people.”

Appointments are first come first serve.
