ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. --

Army Air Forces officials assigned a project for the storage or “Cocooning” of 250 (later expanded to nearly 500) B-29 Superfortress bomber aircraft managed and sustained by personnel at WRATSC March 7, 1946.  On June 6, 1947, J.I. Hass Company from Atlanta, Georgia, contractor for the “Cocooning” Project, arrived at Robins Field to begin work on the B-29 project. These aircraft remained in storage until the outbreak of the Korea War, when they were brought back to flying condition.
