On Jan. 10, 2007, Mark Doherty, Institute for Operational Research and Management Sciences executive director, presented then WR-ALC Commander Maj. Gen. Tom Owen the 2006 Franz Edelman Trophy for Operational research. The Center received the award for reducing the repair and overhaul time on the C-5 aircraft by 33%.
