AIR FORCE AID SOCIETY
The AIR FORCE AID SOCIETY (AFAS) is the official charity of the U.S. Air Force. It promotes the Air Force mission by helping "to relieve distress of Air Force members and their families and assisting them to finance their education". Through the years, AFAS has become increasingly effective in helping individuals with personal emergencies - as well as extremely useful when used by commanders to help solve personnel problems in their units. AFTER HOURS EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE
Active duty military members needing after-hours emergency financial assistance, will need to call 1-877-272-7337.
The Armed Forces Emergency Service Center (AFESC) has agreed to offer its services to Robins AFB. Currently, members needing emergency help after hours contact the unit and /or Command Post. The Command Post (478-327-2612) then contacted the on call Airman and Family Readiness Center representative. A benefit of the new arrangement is that the Red Cross uses a "ticketless" system. When a member is notified that his or her presence is needed back home, a reservation can be made for him/her at the local airport. This will preclude any problems with airlines not accepting checks from the Aid Society for airfare. Additionally, if funds are needed, they can be wired to the individual. To access the new system, the member or First Sergeant will contact the AFESC at 1-877-272-7337. The caseworker will be able to verify the emergency for the units as well as render financial assistance on behalf of the Air Force Aid Society. The AFAS will continue to be available during regular duty hours each weekday until 1630 hours. For additional information contact The Airman and Family Readiness Center at (478)926-1256.
