Robins team named Air Battle Management Crew of Year

7/5/2012 - ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- The 16th Airborne Command and Control Squadron's Combat Crew Two, 461st Air Control Wing is the Air Force Association 2012 Air Battle Management Crew of the Year.
"In a war where excellence was the standard, the 16th ACCS Crew 2 stood out," said Col. Dean Worley, 461st ACW commander. "They brought order to the battlespace chaos and ensured 10 times faster bombs on target, ensuring the destruction of Gaddafi's forces and liberation of the Libyan people."
Crew Two distinguished itself by fusing ground moving target indication data with precision air power for 110 days in the Libyan Joint Operations Area during operations Odyssey Dawn and Unified Protector.
"Within minutes of our first on station, we struck armor and artillery pointed toward towns," said Lt. Col. Mark Webb, Crew Two mission crew commander. "Within weeks, one of the largest armies in the Middle East was fighting on equal terms against its citizens. On every flight we overcame fog, friction and change to assure UN resolutions were enforced and civilians were protected."
The award will be presented in September at AFA's annual National Aerospace Awards and Air & Space Conference and Technology Exposition in National Harbor, Md.
Each year AFA honors outstanding achievements throughout the Air Force, government, academia and the aerospace industry.
