General Peyer shares vision at first commander’s call Published Nov. 7, 2008 By Kendahl Johnson 78 ABW/PA ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- Maj. Gen. Polly Peyer, addressing members of Team Robins as a whole for the first time, said it was "an honor" to command the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center. The WR-ALC commander hosted eight commander's call sessions Nov. 5-6 and will hold three more sessions today. It was her first commander's call since assuming command in August. She took the time to inform, instruct and inspire, with emphasis on four main areas -- People First, Mission Always, initiatives and opportunities and community service. "This commander's call is very well timed for me to provide you with my vision for Robins Air Force Base and provide you with some observations and perceptions I have," the general said during her opening remarks. After discussing the focus areas of the Air Force's senior leadership, she discussed her own personal top 10 priorities -- the qualities, characteristics and values she said she is committed to as a leader in the Air Force. The general then recapped some of the important programs on base falling under the "People First" umbrella. She mentioned the base's efforts to reduce alcohol-related incidents and to improve motorcycle safety. She also said the base has a strong Volunteer Protection Program, which she supports fully. General Peyer said she is very impressed with the base's efforts in the areas of education and technical, leadership and managerial training. "We are really proud at Robins to have great partnerships with local colleges and universities which give people career enhancing opportunities," she said. "That is a tremendous value to the workforce." General Peyer spent several minutes discussing "Mission Always" and the many ways Robins supports the warfighter and the Air Force mission, including optimization through AFSO21 and other initiatives aimed at improving productivity. The commander went on to discuss opportunities, and the future of Robins and maintaining the "image and reputation" that goes along with being the largest industrial complex in the state of Georgia. "As we prepare for a future we are uncertain about, there are a lot of things we need to examine and perhaps adjust in order to stay competitive," General Peyer said. "We need to provide the right capabilities and skill sets to be the industrial complex our nation needs for its defense." The general discussed various military construction projects at Robins, key initiatives, such as high velocity maintenance and alternative energy, the base's energy conservation campaign, the current Combined Federal Campaign fundraiser, and base community involvement efforts. After a general question and answer period, the commander closed the briefing by leading the attendees in the Air Force song.
