The Department of Defense has cut the number of furlough days most of its civilian employees were projected to take during the next several months from 22 to 14.

The reduction in the number of days was confirmed during a press conference Thursday by Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel.

A follow-on email from Air Force personnel officials said the days would be "implemented during the last seven-plus pay periods of the current fiscal year."
