Three killed after vehicle hits barrier at Robins gate

The male driver of a vehicle and two male passengers were killed after striking a vehicle barrier at the Robins  Russell Parkway gate here late Friday night.  
 
The incident happened at approximately 9:30 p.m. when a vehicle approached the gate and the driver failed to stop as ordered by the security forces gate sentry. When the vehicle accelerated through the gate, Security Forces activated a barrier which the vehicle impacted at a high rate of speed. 
 
Two men were pronounced dead at the scene. The other male passenger was transported to Houston Medical Center where he later died.


The identities of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of families.  They are not affiliated with Robins Air Force Base.  An investigation is ongoing.  
 
“This is a tragedy which we all feel deeply at Robins Air Force Base.  We will thoroughly investigate to determine the facts and circumstances and what can be learned from this tragedy", said Col. Katrina Stephens, vice commander, 78th Air Base Wing.  "Our thoughts are with the families of those lost.”

 

The Russell Parkway Gate which was closed for the investigation, will reopen Oct. 5, 2019, at noon.
